These pictures are not about data, but about better picturing this impact through visual examples. While viewing these, keep in mind that our current extinction rate is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.exposingtruth.com\/video-fueling-extinction-rate-1000x-normal\/\" target=\"_blank\">1000x the background level<\/a> and that wild animal populations have shrunk an average of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.exposingtruth.com\/52-drop-animal-populations-40-years\/\" target=\"_blank\">52% in 40 years<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>1. A surfer riding through debris<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact1.jpeg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16985 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact1.jpeg?resize=700%2C420\" alt=\"humanimpact1\" width=\"700\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Plastic has permeated our oceans, with over 270 million metric tons of in the ocean there is potentially <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2014\/dec\/10\/full-scale-plastic-worlds-oceans-revealed-first-time-pollution\" target=\"_blank\">more plastic than fish<\/a> in the oceans right now. This becomes even more believable when we consider that up to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Overfishing\" target=\"_blank\">85% of fisheries are being overexploited<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>2. Deforestation in British Columbia, Canada<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact2.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16986 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact2.jpeg?resize=700%2C420\" alt=\"humanimpact2\" width=\"700\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Deforestation is a major problem,\u00a0and we now have only <a href=\"http:\/\/www.exposingtruth.com\/less-12-many-forests-1950\/\" target=\"_blank\">half as many forests as we did in 1950<\/a>. We are simultaneously putting out vastly more carbon into the atmosphere while\u00a0depleting the planet\u2019s capacity to absorb it.<\/p>\n<p>3. Animal agriculture<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact3.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16987 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact3.jpeg?resize=700%2C420\" alt=\"humanimpact3\" width=\"700\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cowspiracy.com\/facts\/\" target=\"_blank\">Animal agriculture<\/a>, as a whole, requires tremendous amounts of resources and is a leader in environmental degradation, responsible\u00a0for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fao.org\/ag\/magazine\/0612sp1.htm\" target=\"_blank\">18 percent of greenhouse gas emissions (more than all transportation combined)<\/a>. Clearing land for animal agriculture, and the food it requires,<a href=\"https:\/\/openknowledge.worldbank.org\/handle\/10986\/15060\" target=\"_blank\"> accounts for 91% of amazon deforestation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0\u00a0Kowloon City in Hong Kong<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16990\" src=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact4.jpg?resize=850%2C479\" alt=\"humanimpact4\" width=\"636\" height=\"358\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hong Kong is still one of the most densely populated cities on Earth with 6,650 people per square kilometer. When Kowloon City still stood, it housed 33,000 people in a single city block.<\/p>\n<p>5. Mexico City, urban sprawl<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact5.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16991 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact5.jpeg?resize=960%2C576\" alt=\"humanimpact5\" width=\"960\" height=\"576\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mexico City is also one of the most populated cities in the world, and its expansion has wiped out natural ecosystems for many kilometers. Together, this has led to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Air_pollution_in_Mexico_City\" target=\"_blank\">very bad air quality<\/a>, a continuing concern for Mexican health authorities.<\/p>\n<p>6. \u00a0Port au Prince, Haiti<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact6.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-16992 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact6.jpeg?resize=700%2C420\" alt=\"humanimpact6\" width=\"636\" height=\"381\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>7. Crop \u201cdesert\u201d in China, no room for nature<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact7.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-16993 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact7.jpeg?resize=700%2C420\" alt=\"humanimpact7\" width=\"636\" height=\"381\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Huge swaths of China, and indeed many developed and developing countries, is covered in fields containing only one kind of plant. Where fields and forests once stood, now stands neat rows of single species, far more sensitive to environmental fluctuations than a diverse ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p>8. Deforestation in Brazil<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact8.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16994 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact8.jpeg?resize=700%2C420\" alt=\"humanimpact8\" width=\"700\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>9. Plastic moves up the food chain<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact9.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-16995 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact9.jpeg?resize=700%2C420\" alt=\"humanimpact9\" width=\"636\" height=\"381\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems: plastic moves up. The tiny and not so tiny pieces are eaten by animals which are themselves then eaten: it moves up the food chain. With all the<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Microplastics\" target=\"_blank\">microplastics<\/a> in our oceans and water: do we really think this isn\u2019t reaching us?<\/p>\n<p>10. Cheap fossil energy won\u2019t last forever, and it certainly wasn\u2019t free<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact10.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16996 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact10.jpeg?resize=700%2C420\" alt=\"humanimpact10\" width=\"700\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>11. The Yangtze River turning red<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact11.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-16997\" src=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact11.png?resize=802%2C463\" alt=\"humanimpact11\" width=\"636\" height=\"367\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Whether due to microorganisms or industrial pollution: this is certainly a bad sign for the ecosystem. There is<a href=\"http:\/\/www.exposingtruth.com\/collapse\" target=\"_blank\"> reason to believe<\/a> that when enough small ecosystems collapse, the global biosphere will become destabilized and mass extinction will intensify.<\/p>\n<p>12. Alberta Tar Sands, where there was once a boreal forest<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact21.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-17000\" src=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact21.jpg?resize=800%2C532\" alt=\"humanimpact21\" width=\"800\" height=\"532\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The tar sands are one of the most dirty sources of oil, and the extraction of this oil has polluted both the water and the land locally in Alberta. The fact that this project was OK\u2019d by any environmental regulator is shocking, but this becomes less shocking when you realize that Alberta <a href=\"http:\/\/www.exposingtruth.com\/canadian-environment-regulators-now-paid-oil-industry\/\" target=\"_blank\">literally sold their regulator posts to the oil industry<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>13. The Deepwater Horizon crisis<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact13.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17001\" src=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact13.jpeg?resize=700%2C420\" alt=\"humanimpact13\" width=\"636\" height=\"381\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Approximately 5 million barrels of oil (almost a million cubic meters) spilled into the ocean. In response to this disaster, BP <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Corexit\" target=\"_blank\">sprayed Corexit<\/a> (which is so poisonous that the US government demanded they stop) onto the oil to get it to disappear from sight. Millions of barrels of oil<a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/ap-bp-oil-not-degrading-gulf-floor-study-171803770.html\" target=\"_blank\">still\u00a0lay on the bottom of the Gulf<\/a>, rendering hundreds to thousands of square miles devoid of life. Meanwhile, BP got off with a slap on the wrist and a connected high-ranking Halliburton manager\u00a0who destroyed evidence <a href=\"http:\/\/www.exposingtruth.com\/halliburton-manager-found-guilty-destroying-evidence\/\" target=\"_blank\">was fined only $1,000<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>14. \u00a0What was once a forest in Oregon is now a wasteland<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact14.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-17002 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.exposingtruth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/humanimpact14.jpeg?resize=700%2C420\" alt=\"humanimpact14\" width=\"700\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>See previous points about deforestation, also keep in mind that the prices demanded for exploitation of Federal\/public lands is pennies on the dollar for the ecological costs and profit the companies make. They demand so little that the Navajo <a href=\"http:\/\/www.exposingtruth.com\/navajo-win-554000000-from-the-us-government\/\" target=\"_blank\">were able to sue them<\/a> for exploiting their lands and\u00a0not returning even close to market price.<\/p>\n<p>15. The truth is shocking, and when I look at these photos I can only imagine all the heart-wrenching images of environmental destruction that go unseen by most humans, the scenes which lay unvisited in
